Your support will fund clinical trials that give people access to better treatments sooner.

Gastro-intestinal (GI) cancer is the most common form of cancer in Australia.

Every day it takes 50 lives yet too many people still don't have access to the latest treatments that could improve both the length and quality of their lives.

GI Cancer Trials is working to change that. For more than 30 years, we've delivered clinical trials for cancers of the digestive system, including oesophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder and biliary tract, pancreas, large and small bowel, rectum and anus.

These trials give people access to promising new treatments sooner while helping advance the next generation of care.

Every clinical trial brings us one step closer to better treatments, better outcomes and more hope for people diagnosed with GI cancer.

Your donation today will help deliver life-changing clinical trials and create a better future for people affected by GI cancer.

Dr Sarah Hayes, Translational Research Lead, GI Cancer Trials

Clinical trials create hope for people with GI cancer

Greg's story

Greg’s pancreatic cancer was discovered by chance, with no warning or symptoms. Faced with an uncertain future, he was given the opportunity to take part in a donor-funded trial.

For Greg, the trial offered access to treatment while also contributing to research that could improve outcomes for people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the future.

“Without being on the trial, I don’t think I would have been alive today.”

Brooklynn’s story

Brooklynn lost her dad, Jim, to oesophageal cancer in 2023. Today, she is helping turn that experience into hope for others as a member of GI Cancer Trials’ Community Advisory Panel, helping shape clinical trials for future patients.

“Without donations, we simply wouldn't be able to continue these clinical trials and advance in our technology that we have today.”

Karen's story

Karen has been living with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of GI cancer, since 2021. After her cancer returned and spread, a clinical trial gave her another treatment option, reducing seven tumours to two and giving her more time. Today, Karen is a passionate advocate for greater investment in research and trials so more people can have that same opportunity.

“If trials didn’t exist, I wouldn’t be here talking to you today.”

GI cancer is the most common form of cancer in Australia

37,567 Australians are diagnosed each year

50 Australians die every day from a GI cancer

48% chance of surviving at least 5 years (lower than for other major cancers)

Meet Professor Lorraine Chantrill

For Professor Lorraine Chantrill, every clinical trial represents another opportunity to find better treatments for people facing GI cancer.

As a medical oncologist and GI Cancer Trials’ Ambassador, Lorraine has spent her career caring for people with cancer while searching for better ways to treat the disease.

For Lorraine, this is why funding clinical trials is so important. Every study has the potential to open new treatment options, generate new discoveries and bring us closer to better outcomes for people diagnosed with GI cancer.

Your donation can help clinicians like Lorraine continue asking what more can be done; and turn promising ideas into clinical trials that could change lives.
